Default Bake element will not turn off
Brand: General Electric
Model Number: JBP76GV1
Age: 5 - 10 years

My range will not turn off. There is a half inch section on right of element glowing red and the rest of the element from the half inch back to the plate is singed with ash. I'm assuming my element shorted out. My question is, what else was damaged to cause it not to turn off. I hear conflicting advice from a selector switch to the timer could be faulty. I am replacing the element today, but thought I would pick up other part(s) if you have any advice on the subject. Just curious why it didn't trip the breaker--does it have to do with the self cleaning mechanism?
Thanks.
