Need some input on this to see if i'm on to something or just crazy...

I am remodeling my kitchen and have purchased all new stainless appliances except for my oven which is white (w/black) trim. My oven is only a few years old and has a great glass cooktop. I was thinking i could convert it over to a stainless look (not that silly contact paper that looks stainless either) and save myself the cost of a new oven $700 - $1000.

My plan involves removing the white baked enamel coating off the steel parts of the oven with a high powered chemical paint stripper. Then sand/polish/buff the bare metal as needed to match the other stainless pieces as closely as possible. Once i have the desired luster i will seal the bare metal with a clear sealant specifically made for high heat applications that is food safe and inert to prevent oxidation. Presto! a Stainless Steel oven for under $60 worth of materials.

I have searched the internet over and over and have not found anyone who has information about this so i'm looking for input from you guys. I am also concrened about what type of metal the oven is made from. Like if it is galvanized steel, then i don't think i'd be able to get the zinc coating off and this project wouldn't work, or on the otherhand, if the steel is already stainless underneath, then i might not need to use the sealant.

thanks for your input,

-justin c.

In my humble opinion YES you are crazy

The stripper will have to be so strong is will eat metal and all.
Base metal is cheapest they can get much like a car.
You will never get a close match and if you do it will not last long.

Besides where in the Bible does it say all appliances must match
Cannot remember the book but I have heard "Variety is the spice of life"
