Angry Sparks in Microwave oven.
Brand: Please select
Model Number: KHMS155LSS-0
Age: 1 - 4 years

Hi,

My Kitchenaid Microwave oven suddenly started sparking from one of the walls with the small holes in it. It burnt the plastic part that holds the metallic tray. Its also zapping sparks from the wall and the burnt plastic thing starts smoking every time I use the microwave. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Please know I am not very good with these things so please advise me as you would a complete layman.

Thanks a lot.

The burnt plastic thing may be a filter and when it gets greasy or dirty the microwave will start arcing. If it does it enough it will damage the megaton thing. It can also arc when just the inside is dirty. Your filter may be through the little holes and harder to access to clean.

The filter is delicate so be careful cleaning it when you get a new one. Post your model # and I'll show you the part. An appliance parts store should have the material you can cut to fit.

Hi,

I'm new to this forum. I have a Kenmore microwave hood combo part #665.61701/61709. I noticed sparking in my microwave. I gave it a thorough cleaning although it wasn't very dirty to begin with. The sparking worsened and I then noticed the plate in the roof of the unit had what looks like a small hole with black charring around it. The plate appears to be held in place by four plastic pins; I can't tell if they are slotted like screws or just flat (eyes getting old LOL). I assume that the magnetron is on the other side of this plate.

Can anyone tell me if this is repairable or is it replacement time?

Thanks, Paul
