Smile Replacing Microwave Power Lead - Safe To Do So?
Brand: Other
Model Number: ST23W
Age: 1 - 4 years

Hi,

We have a Proline Microchef ST23W, which has a very short power lead, only about 18", and the plug is about 3ft away. It's not possible to move the microwave closer to the plug, due to work surface design, and I'd rather not have to add an ugly extension lead.

I was wondering if its possible to replace the power lead, with a longer one? It looks simple enough, there are 3 screws on the back, which when removed enables you to slide the cover off (unplugged first of course). However there is a big sticker on the back saying 'WARNING: Microwave power, do NOT remove cover'.

Is it safe to take the cover off, as long as its unplugged? I'm not going to be exposing myself to microwave energy am I?

Many thanks

Ben

It is not safe to remove the cover be cause there is a device in there that holds a charge even when it is unplugged.

There are no other cords available.

Most manufacturers (if not all) warn that you should NEVER use an extension cord with your microwave. If you must have a longer cord, please have it installed by a qualified technician, to avoid possible damage to yourself and/or the microwave.
