Reaching capacitor leads not easy Brand: Maytag Model Number: MMV5156AAS Age: 1 - 4 years Hello - I have read about replacing the magnetron and have a new one. However, all research says to discharge the high voltage capacitors. On my unit however, the capacitor leads have plastic protector rings (cylinders) that cover the terminals and I cannot seem to get them moved away to expose the leads. If I were to connect a wire to the leads from the capacitor terminal and then short the capacitor by touching the wire ends using an insulated screwdriver or something similar, will that work? And do I need to remove the wires that are attached to the capacitor before shorting the capacitor or can those stay plugged into the terminal leads? One last stupid question - if I were to simply replace the magnetron without discharging the capacitor, other than the obvious safety factor, is there any risk of damaging the unit? There are no open terminals or wires - all parts are protected by casings so there is little chance of any metal touching metal. I just need to know if I plug the magnetron in without discharging the capacitor, will I cause something to blow, get fried, get ruined or what. Thanks much. |
