Default Problem w/door safety kill switch??
Brand: Frigidaire
Model Number: FMV156DBA
Age: 1 - 4 years

Sorry if this has already been addressed. I searched first but couldn't find a related post.

I bought and installed this Frigidaire over-the-range microwave in May 2005. It's worked fine until recently:

When you close the door, the internal door latch presses on a little red safety kill switch. This, I surmise, prevents the microwave from operating with the door open.

Recently, for some reason, the latch doesn't seem to be pressing on the switch continously so the microwave shuts off after running for a few seconds unless I apply quite a bit of upward pressure on the door handle. Actually, sometimes it shuts off but other times the light, fan and carosel keep running but the food does not get cooked. Other times the timer keeps counting down but nothing else is happening. Very frustrating because I have to stand there and press up on the door handle in order for it to work.

Per the manufacturer, there is a 10 year warranty on the magnetron tube only. Do I need to replace the entire microwave?

thanks for your reply.

If there is nothing broken a simple adjustment by a qualified service technician should be all that it needs.

Here is a link to your microwave model FMV156DBA.
