Default Not Heating
Brand: Kenmore
Model Number: 72162469200
Age: 1 - 4 years

I have a 4.5 year old Kenmore microwave that is not heating....it has started to make a slight humming noise when used and does heat some but not what it should. It has only started to do this within the last two weeks and is getting worse. I understand that the Magnatron is under warrenty for 5 years. Does this sound like a Magnatron problem? I am trying to see if it is worth the risk to have a Sears serviceman come out. (based on the price of new units, it may not be worth paying for a repair.).

Thanks

Hi,

It could be the Magnatron or the high voltage diode.
Is that 5 year Magnatron warranty parts and labor?

Yes it is a 5 year magnatron warranty that will expire at the end of October. I am assuming it is parts and Labor since the warranty states, 'Sears will repair it free of charge'. The unit works as it should at times but not at other times and does seem to make a noise. We also detected a smell (burning?) a few times. Do you feel it is worth a look by the warrenty folks? My risk is a $60 service fee (which will not be charged if it is covered under the warranty.)

Thanks
