Default Microwave quits after 6 seconds and displays f-9
Brand: Kenmore
Model Number: 721.64683300
Age: 1 - 4 years

This is a Kenmore elite ultra wave microwave hood combo. It starts runs for around 5 seconds and then beeps and displays f-9. It will not heat and unplugging it for 40 seconds doesn't work (someone elses suggestion) Anyone have any idea what's wrong? Also for the 6 seconds it's on it makes a clicking noise about once per second?

Exclamation F9 in 72163683300 Kenmore Elite circa 2003

The F9 message is the inverter PCB board that has gone bad.

It is part number 6871W1so19A : Most people will need a technician to replace it.

This is for the model # 72163683300

I am having the same problem and it just started happening today. Mine is a Kenmore Elite Model # 407KM00623 purchased in 2004.

I find it interesting that all instances that I have seen on google (and here) have happened within the last 45 days. I wonder if this is an internal software problem.

Default Same problem here with the Ultra wave Hood combo

"runs" (and clicks) for about 5-10 seconds (but does not cook)

And then craps out and flashes F-9

Nice for an 800 plus dollar machine that is 4 years old.

The Sears parts Web site is down for nightly maintenance as I write this, but every other manufacturer indicates that F9 is a door latch (switch) problem, not an inverter problem. Unless I'm on the wrong planet all of a sudden.

So, I would suggest that you all check (or have a friend check) the door switches and mounts.

You can find handy files on safety, disassembly and door switch diagnosis and replacement if you look at my user name and come find me.

Always happy to help.
