Default Microwave Handle Replacement
Brand: General Electric
Model Number: JVM1490WD 003
Age: 5 - 10 years

Hi, hope you can help me.

I have the new handle, but I can't access the bottom screw to replace the handle. I removed the trim inside the door and can access the top screw but not the bottom screw.

The bottom screw is covered by a large flat metal part (covering most of the inside of the door) which I can't seem to remove. I did remove the six screws on the part and tried to pull it off, but it doesn't seem to budge. I also saw that there were plastic tabs on this part, but loosening them didn't seem to help either.

Can this handle be replaced? And, if so, how can I get to the bottom screw?

Thanks

My understanding is that you have to remove the first screw then rotate the handle before you can remove it.

Does that make sense?

You can usually find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number here: Appliance Parts From PartSelect | Repair Parts For Major Appliances
Maybe that will help?
