Spring Problems Hi Daniel,
Sorry to hear you're having spring problems too.
You shouldn't have a spring problem in the winter
The springs on the microwave door are obviously a poor design. Kitchenaid messed up on this one.
Mike Canfield (another poster) sent me a PM with some help instructions since he went through the process several times himself. The instructions helped confirm the process. I will forward them to you in a PM.
My micro/oven combo was slightly differently, so I ran into a snag with the exhaust vent that comes out between the micro and oven. Had to remove a screw on that so I could slide it over to get to a screw for removal. The screw is on the inside of the duct, hard to get to, and unnecessary since the duct is help in place by the front grill.
Regarding pics, don't have any. You'll be okay without, though only one spring was busted for me so I could see the path. Another snag I ran into was putting it all back together. The location of the screws is another design flaw in terms of support. The door seemed very flimsy in how the cover fit back, but that's the way it is.
Ordering the springs from partselect went okay. I seemed to recall I had to call Kitchenaid to verify I had the right spring part number. There was some cross referencing between the Kitchenaid Part number and partselect.
I have a new problem with my micro that has cropped up. When defrosting, I keep hearing a clicking sound. Must be a relay that turns the heating element on and off. It was acting really strangely the other day, the light kept going on and off. I think it might be possessed.
Good Luck!
