Default Microwave
Brand: General Electric
Model Number: JE1540WW002
Age: Please select

Turntable stopped operating. Obtained number for new motor on the net. I installed new motor. Unit is built-in type, so tested new motor befor re-installing. It worked. Tested again after installation, but got burning odor and motor stopped. Original motor said ST-16,KX63SAAA, AC 120v,2w. Replacement unit said21VAC, F Class ZP. Both were made in Korea. Do I now assume that I got a new reduced voltage unit and when I turned the unit back on I got 120v to the motor, hence the burning odor? The unit is noted as being built in 1977. Did GE change the motor spec? The replacement motor came in a GE package from Part Select. It is very difficult to get the unit out of the wall, so I haven't done it a second time.

If your new motor said 21VAC and the original said 120VAC, then you could have gotten "hosed" by PartSelect.com.

Well that would be a first! (Please note - the preceding comment was sarcasm).

Anyway... if you'd like to get the proper motor, please enter your model number as "JE1540WW02" (not 002) here: tinyurl.com/gv383

Then I'd get on the horn with PartSelect and complain my way up the chain of supervisors until they agree to give you a refund.

If that doesn't work you could threaten them with their State's Attorney General since if they sent you a 21V motor to go in a 120V circuit they could be perceived as looking to start a house fire.

Isn't that "arson"?? GOLLY...
