Default Magic Chef death throes?
Brand: Magic Chef
Model Number: MCD1311ST
Age: 1 - 4 years

I'm having problems with this microwave and am not sure whether to junk it or not. When I turn it on, it sparks and smokes and makes a really lound staticky, humming noise.

On the right side of the interior is a metal plate that has a hole burnt through it. I can't find either a parts list or an expanded drawing online, but from the little I've read, this part might be the "wave guide cover".

Replacing the cover sounds easy, if indeed this is what it is, but I'm wondering about the root cause and if it's not wiser and less expensive to just junk it.

Any help or advice is appreciated.

Thanks.

A lot of times food particle will get behind the piece that you are talking about.

This will cause arcing and smoking.

Take the plate off and clean it if this cures the problem all you will need is a new cover.

The model number is usually in the area where the door closes.
