Default Low Microwave Power Output
Brand: Kenmore
Model Number: 665.616831
Age: 5 - 10 years

Greetings-

My microwave takes 2-3 times longer to heat something up after it was run for five minutes with nothing in it. Everything else works well other than the power output is low. The line voltage and magnetron check out okay, and I see the response to this situation is typically a bad transformer.

Is the transformer on the 1100W Inverter card or somewhere else?

Thanks!
Matt

Check resistance on the transformer windings with the unit unplugged. Mag tubes can test good and still be bad...

Are you talking about the transformer on the 1100 watt inverter card?

Are the inverter boards making any funny noises? The boards take the place of the transformer. Intermitten troubles can be hard to find. With the prices of boards and mag tubes,I would price out a new Microwave...

I can't hear any funny noises and the low output is consistent. I installed a new magnetron and still have the same problem. Since Sears wants $700 for a new microwave, I have no problems spending $100 on a new inverter board and 1 hour to install it if replacing the board will solve the problem.
