Default Kenmore MW does not cook
Brand: Kenmore
Age: 1 - 4 years

The microwave accepts commands from the touch panel, but when "start" is pressed, the microwace cavity lights up, the fan starts and the plate begins to rotate and a second or so later the cavity activity stops. the cavity activity cycles on each subsequent five seconds.

I have checked the primary, secondary and the monitor door switches, and they appear to be working properly.

I ran the touch panel and microcomputer board test with the following results:

When the microwave is put in this mode the display indicates 6168 (superscript) 3

When each of the microwave pad keys is pressed, the microwave display is supposed to display numeral 8 in one of five positions. The microwave display responds properly to these inputs.

In addition when each of six touch pad controls is pressed a corresponding microwave function is activated.

1) When the "auto cook" function control is pressed the Humidity sensor is supposed to be activated and 8 seconds subsequently display "Hmxxx."
When this control is pressed "Hm460" is displayed after 8 seconds.

2) When the "clock" control is pressed, the microwave buzzer is supposed to sound. The microwave responds as indicated.

3) When the numeral "1" pad is pressed relay 4901 is supposed to be activated.
When numeral "1" pad is pressed a buzzing noise eminated from the microwave. (the noise could be a chattering relay)

4) When the numeral "3" pad is pressed relay 4903 is supposed to be activated.
When numeral "3" pad is pressed there is no apparent response from the microwave.

5) When the numeral "5" pad is pressed no microwave function is supposed to be activated.
When numeral "5" pad is pressed a buzzing noise eminated from the microwave. (the noise could be a chattering relay)

6) When the numeral "6" pad is pressed relay 4906 is supposed to be activated.
When numeral "6" pad is pressed there is no apparent response from the microwave.

7) When the numeral "9" pad is pressed the hood fan triac is supposed to be activated.
When numeral "9" pad is pressed the hood fan is turned on.

Your assistance in analyzing these results would be greatly appreciated. I am trying to establish the part in the microwave that has failed so that I can effect a repair. Your help would be greatly appreciated.

Do you have the model number to your microwave?

I would also need a copy of the wiring diagram.

It does sound like there is a problem in the circuit board.

Sheila,

Thanks for taking a look at this problem. The model number is 66561689101.
I have some schematics and diagonistics that the manufacturer included with the appliance. I will send these to you in another transmission. I first need to get them in an electronic format.

Thank You

Default Microwave Schematics

Sheila,

I have Jpeg images of the schematics, but I cannot load them onto your website. Please let me know how to and I will post them.

Thank you,
Tony
