Default Interior Light Out
Brand: Tappan
Model Number: 56-2991
Age: More than 10 years

The interior light/oven lamp on my Tappan mdl#: 56-2991 , S/N: 14503543 is out.

I have replaced the bulb (120v 30w) and tested/confirmed continuity on both the old and new bulbs.

There is no power at the interior light/oven lamp socket when the microwave door is opened.

The light does not come on when the microwave oven is operated but items do get heated, the fan runs, and the beeper beeps.

The schematic is not clear to me but appears to have several/multi path switches and the blue (BL) wire and the white (wh) wire attached to the socket disappear into a housing/channel between the oven cavity and the touch pad.

...so what do you think/recommend?

It is likely a problem in the board.

So can I test, replace, or what?

...so it is likely a prob with the board?

Can I test the board, replace it, or what?

Should I just buy a new machine becaust the light is out?

I suspect this is a ploy by my wife to remodel the entire kitchen...since the light is out in the microwave we should now replace the floors, the cabinets, the countertops, the back splash, the sink with faucet, all the appliances, and the ceiling lights just to make sure the light in the microwave will work next time.

You have to understand that I am under great pressure to get this light working or it may cost me months of remodeling work and lots of $$.

Please, give me something to work with so I can at least look like I am making an effort to get that light working.

Check the wires that go to the light socket for continuity.

Check the switches in the door circuit.

Here is a link to the part of your microwave model 56-2991-00-01.

Some of the part to your microwave are no longer available.

uh oh...even with the light out my wife noticed that her oatmeal wasn't warm after a couple of minutes in the microwave this morning.

She is so smart...it only took her a week to figure out what she did wrong when the light went out and the microwave still heated food.

Now I am going to have to remodel the kitchen.

oh well.

Thanks for the help. I am sure I will be back with another problem as I start the remodel job.
