Default Installing charcoal filter on GE Spacemkr
Brand: General Electric
Model Number: JVM1870
Age: Less than 1 year

I purchased the correct charcoal filter from PartSelect.com for my JVM 1870 GE Profile Spacemaker XL1800 microwave. The handy user manual from GE shows the old style vent set-up for installing the charcoal filter, but, while mentioning the Active Vent feature, does not indicate how to get the charcoal filter into the area where it is supposed to go. The Active Vent mechanisms block the path. I did try to remove the Active Vent by taking out two screws that held it in place, but it only moved a little and there wasn't room to get the filter in. I didn't want to force it.
Calling GE and also looking at their web site provides no clues without having to call a service tech.

Any ideas? I'm sure I just have to fully remove the Active Vent, but I don't want to mess it up by doing it incorrectly.
