The door on this GE microwave consists of an outside plastic and an inside plastic with the perforated metal grill behind it. During use and inadvertently, a piece of aluminum wrapping arched on the inside and produced a small hole on the inside plastic. There is no damage to the metal reflective grill and no damage to the outside plastic on the door. The only damage is a small hole on the inside plastic. Is it safe to use the appliance as such? Can the inside hole be repaired with any type of sealant? GE recommends not using it and they do not have replacement parts because of the age. A reputable local repair person says it is no problem to use as such since the reflective metal screen was not affected. I was hoping for some additional input/advice. Thanks.

As long as you are absolutely sure that the metal lining is OK and the door closes properly, it should be OK to use
It is the metal lining/screen which prevents microwave radiation from leaking out of the appliance
If you are still nervous try googling "Microwave Liner Repair Kit"
If not GE some other manufacturer may make an epoxy which is certified microwave safe

it will b perfectly fine. the microwaves wont radiate more than a few inches past the door anyway....jpg
