Default Have no heat but everything else works
Brand: Whirlpool
Model Number: MH6150XHQ-1
Age: 5 - 10 years

I have a whirlpool over range microwave that is not heating. Everything else is working but it does seem to be a little louder than normal. I am somewhat inclined enough to test parts and replace them if need be. I do however have no idea about microwaves so if someone has any help that they could provide about a good place to start and any safety precautions while working on it that would be great.
Thank You

you have a high voltage problem. probably bad magnetron tube or diode. all high voltage recomend get new unit or get qualified service tech. even unplugged still holds charge. zap!

Thank you for the input. If I find someone to put it in is the magnetron an expensive part.

No heat and a louder noise usually means a bad high-voltage diode (shorted) or a bad magnetron.

Here are some links you or a friend can use for test help, but read their safety warnings first:

How to Test The High-Voltage Diode (Rectifier) Used In Microwave Ovens
How To Test The Magnetron Used In Microwave Ovens
The Purpose of the Typical High Voltage Transformer Used in Microwave Ovens and How to Safely Test It

You can usually find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number here: Appliance Parts From PartSelect | Repair Parts For Major Appliances.
Be careful and heed the safety warnings!
