Default GE Spacemaker light stays on
Brand: Please select
Model Number: jvm1642bb002
Age: 1 - 4 years

I just replaced the door handle with a new one from partselect. now it appears the door interlocks aren't functioning as the light stays on and the lcd displays the door icon.

I am told there are two interlocks but don't know where they are or how to test them.

I had taken the door apart before and put it back with no issues.
I would appreciate any suggestions on what could have happened.

thanks

I recently did a door handle repair on an older version of the GE OTR spacemaker microwave (JVM140G01), and thought all was okay when I first tried the door, but it had the same symptom, the light wouldn't go out unless I pushed on the door. When I opened the door and sighted from the edge of the door down its length, I saw that I had not fully engaged one of the plastic clips holding the inner door cover in place, and it bulged slightly at that one location. After pressing on that spot, the clip snapped into place, and after that the light extinguished when I shut the door. It wasn't apparent until after sighting down the edge of the door that the clip wasn't engaged fully. Might be worth a try...

Default fixed - thanks for your help

The problem turned out to be that I had put the last two screws to the handle on the wrong side of the metal door. But your post got me onto the right track. the screw heads on the wrong side of the metal door caused it not to seal properly. the metal door must have to make correct contact against the inner frame for it to work.
