Default GE Microwave no heat
Brand: General Electric
Model Number: JE1660GB002
Age: 1 - 4 years

I have a GE Sensor Microwave Oven model number JE1660GB002. A few weeks ago it started to act up when you would open the door. Intermittently the light and fan would start when the door was opened and then turn off when the door was closed. This did not occur all the time. Now the door operation is correct but the oven will not generate heat.

I tested all sensors and they test good. I am a little confused about the high voltage Diode as it tests open. I am using a Fluke meter with the diode test option and it appears as if it is bad. I have tried with the voltage in opposite directions. I am a little out of my element as I am not sure how the diode should test if good or bad.

I took the oven apart and followed the troubleshooting in the manual (see attached jpg) I started at the top left D and ended up at "Intermittent Problem - Call TAG Team for resolution" Well this does not tell me much as there is no reference for TAG Team to call. I am going to call GE tomorrow.

In the meantime I am assuming the magnatron, high voltage transformer and high voltage capacitor are all good as the unit will draw close to 10 amps when running but still doesn’t generate heat.
I guess it comes down to two possibilities; either the High Voltage Diode is bad or I the circuit board is bad. Since all sensors plug into the board I am thinking it may be suspect. The cost for the board is 115 and the diode is 50. For this amount of money I think I am better off with a new oven. If anyone has any experience with this unit I would love to hear your ideas.

Thanks

Keith

If the microwave is drawing 10 amp when you turn it on and it is not heating that would indicate that the magnetron is faulty.

Here is a link to your microwave model JE1660GB002.
