Question Flash/arc side plate
Brand: KitchenAid
Model Number: KEMS377D
Age: 5 - 10 years

I noticed last week that my microwave was making a strange electronic surge noise and realized it was arching. I didn't understand why except I had a cracked microwave safe bowl in it at the time, so I took that out and it seemed ok then. BUT, after a few days I noticed a smoke smell when I took something out of the microwave and noticed that there was a quarter-size burn in the lower plate on the right side of the oven. I tested the oven and can see flashing light behind the plate at the burn point. After searching this forum I am equating my experience to one where you suggested that the mica diffuser plate should be removed, clean behind it and replaced the plate. It was also suggested that "if arcing is from the magnetron area, it is probably the rf seal . . ."
There are 2 plates on the right side of my microwave/convection oven combo unit. One toward the top and one at the bottom. The bottom one is burned---which one is that--- the mica diffuser plate or the magnetron? Also, I searched your parts available for my model and there is nothing described as a "mica diffuser plate" nor an "rf seal". Could you advise on the proper parts for this repair? Thank so much.

Can you please supply the last three digit of your model number for a detailed breakdown of your microwave?

If there is a burn hole in the mica diffuser plate it is usually cause by grease or food particles not the RF seal.

The RF seal is part of the magnetron.

Hi It sounds like u need a new mag tube and hope it didnot arch too much if there is a burn mark inside where the mag goes and it is bad, a new mag will also arch. there is no rf seal.....Its worth a shoot if u are doing it your self probably a little over a 100 bucks for a new mag good luck
