Default F9 error message
Brand: Kenmore
Model Number: 721.63684300
Age: 1 - 4 years

Time of day goes away, when door is opened and closed. This unit will not operate until the time of day is reset. Someimes get error messsage F9. Usually opreates OK at least one time, after time is reset. Heats OK. Blowers work OK. Lights work OK.
I would hate to replace the circuit board if it's a bad door switch, or some other inexpensive part. That's why I'm asking for help.

Thanks
Jack

Check the wiring connection to the control.

It may be when you open the door the range moves enough to jar the wires.

The F9 is the code for a faulty control.

How do I open the microwave to expose the control to check the wiring?
I have unplugged the microwave and plugged it back in. The door latches work and are tight. I can't get behind the buttons and digital control without unscrewing the bottom panel which holds the fan.
Thanks!

To get in to the control panel you will have to take the microwave down and take the cabinet off.

Default another ?

By remove the cabinet, do you mean take off the outer metal shell to get to the inside? Do you think it will be easy to determine where the wires are going to the control panel?
Lastly, I've heard that there is a chance of electic shock with VCR repairs, even when it in unplugged. Is there that same chance with microwaves?
Thanks,
Debbie

Yes you have to remove the outer shell to access the control panel.

Yes the microwave has a high voltage circuit that is dangerous even when the microwave is unplugged.

If you are not so inclined you should have it service by a qualified technician.
