When I tried to use my Convection Microwave, it made a zap sound. I took out the rack that came with the microwave, and tried it again. This time, it was really LOUD and SMOKE came from the side (inside the microwave). I shut off the microwave immediately, and turned on the fan. This is a microwave over the range type. The smoke smelled like electrical fire. It came from the side with all the electronics. I don't know if the microwave will heat up the food because I am afraid to turn it on again. All buttons seem to work. Is there any hope for this microwave?

Without looking at the microwave it is hard to say what was making the zapping sound.

If the smell was electrical it could have been the transformer or the magnetron.

If may have been a switch with a bad connection.
