Default Cleaning microwave/convection oven when sauce explodes
Brand: General Electric
Model Number: JVM290BV
Age: More than 10 years

I have a GE "Profile" microwave-convection oven that's a great appliance. Tonight, I put a jar of Ragu alfredo sauce, top off, in to heat at a low setting but it still "exploded" and sent about a cup of sauce through the holes in the oven roof. There is no apparent way to clean what hasn't dripped down on its own. Is there anything I can do to get it clean? Thank you.

The only way to clean this would be to take it down from the installed location and take it apart.

Be very careful as there is a circuit that will stay charge even after it is unplugged.

Here is a link to your microwave model JVM290BV.

Thank you, Sheila!

And thanks to having a handy husband, who is also forgiving and says he could have made the same mistake, our oven is clean again.

He did find that the fan which is a range hood that is built into the oven has been pulling grease from the cooktop up through all the internal machinery before venting it. UGH. There was 10+ years of grease that he cleaned off, making the sauce a small deal. WHY on earth would GE make the oven this way?
