Default Arcing in magnetron area
Brand: General Electric
Model Number: JVM1640WB 003
Age: 5 - 10 years

I have a GE Spacemaker microwave Mod # JVM1640WB 003. Just started making an arcing sound. Cleaned inside and out. A day later started again. Appears to be arcing/flashing in the area of the magnetron, (upper right hand side). It does not arc all the time. Sometimes it works fine. Does it need a new magnetron or is there something else to check first? All suggestions are welcome. Thanks.

Does it have a paper like filter on the inside. It can burn and be hard to clean and cause the arching. Even when everything looks clean make sure it's not greasy feeling. If it's not caused by these the magnetron is probably at fault.

sometimes the cooking tubes will arch inside where they radiate, remove the mag tub and check for archs if present sand down arched aread, usually the mag tube will b arched on the end to. I once sanded down the burn marks and put a new tube in but the archs were so bad the new cooking tube would nt work either.. JPG
