Question Where do you buy appliances?

When you're ready to purchase appliances for your home, where do you typically buy them? Have a favorite chain or local store that you frequent? Lay it on me.

Well we just grab the sears catalog. We look at flyers that come to the house but typically smaller places want higher prices. Plus it is easier just to ring them up on the phone or go to the website and order than wasting gas running all around town.

Because they are a major chain, problems with warranty are usually not an issue.
my 2 cents anyway

I have this terrible compulsion for buying secondhand. Most of the time I do quite well and the machines I pick out are serviceable for many years; but sometimes I mess up and end up with junk. One day I'll break out of my tightwad cocoon and get a shiny new somethingorother with all the bells and whistles, warrantied out the wazoo, and I will treat it with luv and devotion until my whole family's sick of lookin' at it.

HomeGirl's remodel fantasy du jour.

Actually there is really nothing wrong with buying second hand. Just recently we were forced to buy second hand because the spot where my stove goes was sort of custom in size. We tried everywhere to get a stove small enough but to no avail.

Then my husband started to shop around used appliance stores and he found a beautiful old Admiral which fits perfectly and cooks great too.

For me, it depends on the type of appliance iam going to buy. For ex., if iam interested in buying a blender or microwave, then i prefer going to sears. On the other hand, if i wish to buy any electric appliances like fans, night lamps then i would prefer home depot.

I have found that Best Buy actually tends to have some great deals on appliances. When I bought a new house a few years ago, I got a wide by side fridge, a ceramic top convection stove/oven, and a washer and dryer set for a heck of a deal because I bought all of it, so they gave me a discount, and I also took the floor models (which had nothing wrong with them) at the end of the season when they were making room for the newer things. By the time the discounts were taken into consideration, I probably saved a good 35% off of what I would have spent.

Most of mine came from Sears and are several years old. Lately though I’ve been buying at Lowes and Home Depot.

I like Lowes -- people on hand to answer questions about different models, but no pressure and plenty of time to look around and kick the wheels.

I prefer the family owned business over the big franchise companies.

We don't have any family-owned here. I have to admit that I've become something of a Lowes-junkie in the last few years.

SO many projects....so little talent (on my part)!
