I would prefer to go to the family-owned stores too, but like Accer1, we just don't have any. It seems like everything is becoming Big Box around here.

I usually shop at lowes. I have family that works there and get the already good prices and a discount.

I like Home Depot. They are close to my home and their prices are reasonable.

Direct from the factory in Amana/Maytag/Now Whirlpool, but alas, probably no longer...

Specialist hardware stores. I don't like buying from general stores like K-mart, etc because since they sell everything, they can't specialise in one thing so they may not be as helpful in helping me choose.

I like Whirlpool, they have worked pretty well.
