Default Warning, Dragging Brake shoes symtom=slow spin

This applies to direct drive Kenmore or Whirlpool or Crosly washers. The primary brake shoe failure is due to wearing brake shoe cam rollers, just soft metal.
If your washer has dragging brake shoes, it is important to fix soon as the motor could burn up! The motor will draw excessive current, and the motor bearings will fail/or both.
To confirm, remove motor and turn coupler clockwise till the spin basket starts turning.
If very hard to turn, you have dragging brake shoes or something jamming spin basket. Check tub ist for something jamming it. If ok, pull tranny and loosen spin basket nut, then tap on top of nut and pull basket loose.
Under washer, pry brake shoes down till they clear housing, remove c clips and brake spring, then change brake shoes.
Alternately, you can just grind off 1/4 of brake shoe thickness and re-use, but understand the brake shoe rollers are still wearing!
