Hello,Steve
My name is Geoff just thought I would give you some Ideas of what you can do to fix your water-cooler .....First thing you need to do is check your thermostat you can not by-pas it but if you turn the control all the way to the left counter-clock wise and then, turn it clock-wise to the 1 & 7 position the compressor should start from warm, meaning if it was not@cold temp. Yet now if that does not happen then all you have to do is replace the thermostat they cost approximately $ 20.00 here.
Now if with the thermo, you have now, if it does not start the compressor when you do the above then keep the new thermostat cuz you will likely not be able to return it after use, but if you can then cool. They are good to have handy any-way cuz a thermostat will need replacing after a year or two on most coolers. The older ones go for longer time periods. Now if that does not work, then it will most likely be a relay witch is use-alley under a cover attached to the compressor,a relay is also cheap to replace. Now the relay when out of cooler you can test to see if it is working before you replace it, if that is tests good then you now know it is your compressor that needs to be replaced, if this is the case then just toss this cooler cuz you can in most cases buy a new one or used for the price of a new compressor. Unless you can find a used one from a btl. water store or some one privately. Ok I hope this helps you, let me know how u make out Steve.
