My 2 year old mixer started making lots of noise. So I took off the cover and saw the transmission housing was cracked in 2 places. I have ordered the appropriate parts to fix it, but I am concerned about what kind of gearbox grease I need to put in there. My husband and I are debating whether we need to get the $17 kitchenaid gearbox grease, or if we can just use some from the auto parts store. Does it really make a difference? Does anybody know?

You should use the kitchenaid gearbox grease as it is a food grade grease made for appliances.
