It could be the defrost thermostat has failed.
It is round in shape and it mounted on the coils.

Sheila,
The only thing I could find on the coils was tube shaped and clamped to the coils with two wires going to the main circuit board. The wiring diagram shows a thermistor , but I don;t know where it is located.

The model number for the unit is AHG40FCG1, it is a GE dehumidifier.

No, I did not get this problem fixed. I bought a new dehumidifier. I still want to repair the old one though.
