My son accidentally ground up a glass in our Kitchen Aid disposal model # KCD1250XI. Nothing happens when we hit the reset button. When we try to turn on the disposal, all we get is a hum. Should we try to fix it and, if so, how? Or should we give up and buy a new one? We believe it is 5 years old.

It sounds like it may still be jammed with a piece of glass.

There may be a hole in the bottom of the disposer that will accept a wrench so you can try to free what ever is still there.

If it was jammed for a long period of time with the power still on and the breaker did not trip it may have damaged the motor it which case it would have to be replaced.
