Default Handy trick for AC

My garbage disposal died. Or at least I thought it did. It just wouldnt turn on one day. I waited forever for someone to come and look at it. When they finally did, I found out there there is a reset button. I didnt need a new one or an expensive repair after all. Just a thought of something to check next time yours dies, it might save you a bit of headache.

This switch is called the Auto-Reset. It is a safety deviced used to turn off the motor when it gets too hot. Usually it is placed on the bottom of a disposer. If you needed to reset that switch, you may want to watch for any clogging or jamming causing the motor to run with a high amount of resistance.
For Alex, Wasteking and In-Sink-Erator are two good brands, both specializing in disposers. There are two types of disposers, batch feed, and continuous feed. Batch feed requires you to plug the drain before it turns on as a safety precaution to avoid any objectects from flying out of the disposer. A continuous feed allows you to flip a wall switch to turn it on/off and being able to run cold water into the disposer to cool the motor down and drain properly, or add more waste while running. Mainly, avoid any disposers with universal motors.

Moon,
I had to laugh at your post. One day mine didn’t work and I thought it was broken so I looked under the sink (you know, maybe it had a post-it note telling me why it quit) and was running my hand under it when I felt a button. I pushed it. I didn’t know what it did but it was a button. Buttons need to be pushed. It’s worked fine since.

Thanks for the tip on the reset button. It figures it would be the easiest thing to repair it.

I did that same thing, I would go and it wouldn't work anymore then I would turn around and once some one came, I would learn about the whole reset button. Oh my goodness I felt so dumb.
