Default GE Disposall Jam help needed

Hi,

I have a GE Disposall. Model GFC 1000 Y 02, serial DT336876T. Installed around 1999.

It is jamming--get a jamming/noise, anf if runs for more than a few seconds seizes up (makes a terrible noise). No space for an allen wrench underneath. Just a plate which covers the wire connections.

Looked at from above, there's a hex nut. When I turn that everything turns freely.

Grateful for any thoughts.

thanks

It is likely the bearing in the unit that are worn out.

Here is a link to your disposer model GFC 1000 y 02.

Thanks for the response--the system seems to work sometimes, then jam at others--is that consistent with a worn bearing?

I can't swear to it, but it seems to jam more when there is hot water running--could this mean that the metal expands a little bit? ie that something is too tight? is there something one can loosen on this disposal? Most disposals have a place below for the key to be used but not this model.

regards,

It may be a dry bearing.

The hot water would cause the metal to expand.
