Default Yet another squeaky dryer
Brand: Maytag
Model Number: MDE4000AYW
Age: 5 - 10 years

Hi-My dryer is making an intermittent very loud squeaky noise that sometimes lasts for 3-5 min. I assume that it is either the belt or the bearing/roller assembly, but my guess is the bearing assembly. If it is, do I just replace the bearing/roller assembly or should I also order the other associated parts (i.e. roller shaft, washers, etc)? Since the dryer is nearly 10 years old, should I just go ahead and replace the belt? The dryer works fine otherwise.
Another question is whether it is easier to get into the dryer from the front or the back.

Thanks.

Try grafite spray on rollers before replacing, also front entrance would be best.

Thanks rblh65

replace the tumbler rollers and shafts and metal washers all at once. the tumbler rollers and shafts are machine to percise tolances and should not be mixed with new and old...... why not replace belt you will already have it opened up. graphite spray will only lat a few months too! just my thought here good luck just replaced mine today

Here is a link to the parts
Maytag MDE4000AYW

And here is a link to a service manual

I would open it up, give it a good check re: rollers & shafts, cracks on the belt, worn felt seals etc. and then get the parts you need. Should not take too long.
Also give it a good cleaning and clean your vent system while you are at it. There is nothing like an overhaul to get another 10 years out of a dryer.

You may also want to check for this
One way to check a dryer motor to see if it is bad.
