Default Wrenching and thumping dryer
Brand: Maytag
Age: 5 - 10 years

When I start my dryer, there is this horrible wrenching noise. It dries fine. But while it is drying there is this thumping noise. When open the door to stop the dryer, like 3 seconds later there is the loud wrenching noise again like something is coming to a stop. My husband pulled the panel off in the back to see if it was anything back there, but we could not tell. The dryer still spins. If anyone has any advice, please help!!

Thanks

Here are your parts

Here is a service manual
http://www.servicematters.com/maytag...s/16008714.pdf

The thumping while running is often a rear support roller

The wrenching noise when stopping is a bit more of a puzzel.
If the drum is stopped and then you hear the noise, the only thing I can think of is that the blower wheel is loose on the motor shaft.

I would open it up and check for wear etc. the following:
belt
rear support rollers
tension (idler roller)
front glides
felt seals
blower wheel

Also give it a good cleaning and you might as well clean and check your vent system.
