my dryer wont stay on without me holding the start button/timer down. i thought the timer was at fault so i replaced it but it is still doing it. it will still tumble and the heat will come on but i have to hold the button down. i pulled of the vent hose and tried to run it but it still wont stay on. someone please help me.
It is a good possibilty that the motor is bad, and it will not get off the start winding. Have you tried to jump out the start switch? I had helped a guy on my web site and he had to do the same thing, hold the button down to keep the motor running, so I instructed him to jump out the switch and it worked. So now all he has to do is turn the timer, where he wants, and the dryer works. The weird thing is he ordered a new start switch, and it did not work. Which is real weird to me. Because, I have been fixing appliance for about thirty years, and it never happened to me. If I could help you, let me know. Tom ApplianceEducator.com
forgive my ignorance but this is my first dryer repair. you say it might be a bad motor but it still works. does this mean i have to replace the whole motor or just a part on it? if so, which part? how do i jump the start switch?
