Does the dryer make any sounds like it is trying to start or is it just dead?

The Thermal fuse is located on the heater housing.

If the dryer is dead and the thermal fuse is open check your vent for a blockage.

Here is a link to your dryer model LNC7766A00.

replaced the thermal fuse unit - cleaned out and/or replaced the venting pipes - still nothing - no noises - no light - the breaker is fine - what next?

How do you know the breaker is fine? Did you take the plate off, where the plug comes in and check the power. If you didn't you should put one lead on the the far left terminal, and the other on the far right terminal, and you should read around 240 volts. Look for burn't wires anywhere. The history with that product is usually the thermal fuse. To make sure you installed the right product, was it the small round object, the size of a dime, with 2 white wires going to it. IUt is on the right side of the heater box, that is located up top. the thermal fuse is on the right hand side off the box, about 5 inches down. tOM T. PAONE's APPLIANCE SALES & SERVICE GUIDE

Check the power at the plug you should have 240 volts.

If you have 240 volts check the power at the terminal block in the dryer.

Check the wiring to the timer.

Check the wiring at the motor switch.

I replaced the thermal fuse with the two white wires and everything works - did drop the bracket and light bulb to an "unrachable" area but the thing runs without the bracket - the thermal fuse is hanging down - does the bracket serve any other purpose than to hold the fuse still?

With out the bracket there is a possibility that the fuse wires shorting out on the metal housing.

The bracket should be retrieved and install properly.
