We have the same issue with a 1972 Maytag DE606. It was working just fine this morning. When we put in a second load and pushed the start button.... Nothing. No contact, no sound, nada. We love this machine and are confident that its a minor part problem. Checked the fuse - its fine. Have pulled off the electronic hood; do not observe any burnt wires. The contact buttons are depressing properly for each temperature option. Any ideas? Sheila, are u out there? I just joined and am new to this. Do I need to post a new thread? Thanks - RvanV

Check and see if the belt broke.

Some off the older dryers had safety switches that cut the power when the belt breaks.

Here is a link to your dryer model DE606.

Check all the wiring.
