Default Whirlpool Electric Dryer Completely Dead
Brand: Whirlpool
Model Number: LER7646EQ0
Age: 5 - 10 years

I was drying a load of clothes, and when I turned the dryer off to remove the clothes, I heard a faint, unfamiliar pop or click. After this the dryer was completely dead. The interior light does not come on and the dryer won't start. I checked the circuit breaker and it had tripped. I reset the breaker, but the dryer is still dead.

The dryer is nine or ten years old. It has not seen any heavy use. I average about one load per week. The dryer was finishing its second load of the day when it died.

The dryer has always worked perfectly until now. I clean the lint filter every time I use it but otherwise have performed no maintenance.

I would appreciate any ideas on what the problem might be, troubleshooting tips (I don't have any meters or gauges), or suggestions as to what I should do next.

Thanks.

You can't do much without a meter to ck things out.You could buy a new thermal fuse that looks small and made of white plastic, with 2 small blue wires attached to it. If it is blown, nothing will work without it! You'll find it in the back of the dryer. Unplug dryer, remove rear cover, you'll find it on lower left side.
