Default Whirlpool Duet Dryer--- will not turn on!
Brand: Whirlpool
Age: 1 - 4 years

Hello everyone, I have a newer Whirlpool Duet dryer and we got a problem! The unit will NOT turn on when you push the button to turn the dryer on. (not the start button but the actual power on button) The unit does have power because the interior light turns on when door opens. What could be my problem, can I fix it myself and how would I do it? Thanks alot for your assistance!!!!!

Whirlpool told me to reset the breaker in the panel box of my electrical service....did that and it did NOTHING to the dryer . I appreciate any help!

It could be the thermal fuse in the dryer that has opened.

Can you please supply your model number?

there are two 1/4 inch screws on the back of the dryer holding down the lid, remove the lid and there should be a tech sheet inside the dryer

Here is a link to your dryer model GEW9250PWO.

The thermal fuse is locate on the blower housing.

You will have to check it with an ohm meter to see if it is opened.

If the fuse is opened check the vent to make sure it is not blocked.

Also check the operating thermostat to make sure it is working.

Here is the thermal fuse.

Default Dryer

So if it does have a bad thermal fuse would that keep the power on button off???? In other words if the fuse was bad it would keep the dryer from being able to power up? There is no power to the keypad but, power inside and to the dryer.....

Yes the thermal fuse cuts the power to the run side of the circuit.

Your dryer runs on 240 volts the fuse cut power to one side of the circuit.

This will still let the light in the dryer work.

A clogged vent is one cause of the thermal fuse opening.

If the dryer over heats the fuse will open.

The operating thermistor is locate on the blower housing.

You will need a meter to check it with an ohm meter.

At room temperature the resistance reading should be 11.9 ohms at 70 degrees.

The resistance goes down as the temperature goes up.
