Default Whirlpool dryer won't start
Brand: Whirlpool
Age: 1 - 4 years

I have a whirlpool dryer and it will not start. When I press the start button, I can hear the relay click and 240 volts goes to the motor, but the motor does not spin. As far as I can tell the heating element is getting 240 too. I am assuming that the motor is bad, but wanted a 2nd opinion.

Thanks for the help!!!!

Andy

Could you provide the Model number
I would not assume it is the motor
Normally most dishwasher motors run on 120 Volts
You may be measuring from hot to hot not to the neutral

Andy, Unplug the dryer, and take the back off, and when you are standing behind it, you will see apiece about an inch and a half long, and a half inch wide, and will be white in color. Put the two wires together, and make sure they don't hit any metal, and turn the dryer on. It should work. Do not run the product with out it. Once you fix it, you need to check you vent and see if the air is blowing out good. Alot of times the vent will be clogged, and that is why the thermal fuse will blow. Tom

So, If I understand you correctly, I will still have 240 volt to the dryer motor and it will not run if the thermal fuse is blown????? I tore this whole f***** thing apart to replace something on the back of the dryer that I could have gotted to byh removing a few screws????? Oh well, this is good practice I guess

Thanks for the help, I will let you know if it works!

yes. There is a thermal fuse for gas too, located in the back. White looking piece about a inch and a half long, and a half inch wide. Tom

Yes, it is normally a thermal fuse or a glow coil. Tom T. PAONE's APPLIANCE SALES & SERVICE GUIDE.
