Default Whirlpool Dryer won't heat
Brand: Whirlpool
Model Number: LER4634PQ0
Age: 1 - 4 years

Hello,

My dryer quite heating up about a week ago and I have tested the panel to ensure 220 and checked the outlet to ensure 220. I also tested and found the thermal fuse had open continuity so I replaced that. However the dryer is still not heating up at all.

Is there a specific order that I should be checking the other thermostats in, plus the heating element. Also there is a second problem that the timer no matter what cycle it is on will only advance to the last click but not actually shut off. It hangs on that last click and keeps running and running. This is not an auto dry sensing dryer so I am not sure how the timer problem is related or if it is an all together different issue.

Most important is for me to get the dryer heating again.

Can you give me some advice,

Greatly appreciated.

I assume the motor runs fine, just no heat.

Did you check for 120 from both sides of the 220 to neutral?

Always remove one wire to whatever device you are measuring, to ensure you are not reading an alternate circuit path.

I would check the heating element first, should be approximately 10 ohms.
Also check from the element to the case should be an open with both wires off the element.

Then the 3 thermostats, also recheck your thermal fuse.

After that all that is left is the motor centrifugal switch and timer contacts

Unplug the dryer, and put you meter on ohms, and check the heating element, if you get no reading it is bad. Then look up the heater houising, and you will see the thermal fuse. Again, keep your meter on ohms, and pull the 2 wires off the the thermal fuse, and check for ohms, any reading it is good, no reading, get a new one.
