Default Whirlpool Dryer, won't get hot
Brand: Please select
Model Number: awz120/3
Age: 5 - 10 years

Our dryer has stopped doing what it is made for; Dry!

If i'm not mistaken the product is an exel vented dryer (there is an airhose through which the air runs out). Further more it is an electric powered machine.

Further more the product seems to work;

- there is plenty of air movement
- the motor works fine (it still tumbles)

The main issue is probably the heating element, since there is no heat produced whatsoever. Next to this I guess it's possible that there is some kind of thermostat inside which could be broken.

My questions:

1. Do you agree that there is a 99% chance the heating element or thermostat is broken
2. Do you think it is fixable
3. Do you think it is fixable for a handy person with no dryer-fix-experience
4. How can i check if the heating element and thermostat are broken (to figure out which of both is the problem
5. What parts would i need.

thank you for your time in advance.

greetings Jean-Paul (holland)

Jean-Paul, you either have a heating element problem or a thermal fuse problem. If you take the back off the dryer, and on the right side you will see the heating element. If you have a ohm meter, you can check the heating elent for ohms, just above the heating element on the top of the element housing is the thermal fuse. That could be your problem, take 1 off of it, and check for ohms. If you need me you can reach me at my web site at ApplianceEducator.com Tom

Tom,

I've done exactly what you discribed and it seems the heating element is malfunctioning. I've ordered a new one which would solve the problem.

thank you for your advice!

cheers, Jean-Paul
