Default Whirlpool dryer element
Brand: Whirlpool
Model Number: LER7646EQZ
Age: 5 - 10 years

The dryer element stays on when the timer reaches off. It will actually come on as long as it's plugged in. This apparently caused the thermal fuse to blow which wouldn't allow the motor to start. Thought it was fixed once that was replaced, but no. If I remove the element from the back of the dryer (with the wires attached), it will not heat up. If I even lean it against the metal housing, it will heat up. I'm not sure if it's a switch in the motor shorting or a relay in the timer since it will turn the motor off.

When The Motor Stops, So Does The Heat. It Is A Safety Feature. You Want A Good Test? Unplug Dryer, Remove One Of The Red Thick Wires From The Motor, and Tape It To Insulate.if It Is A 1998 Or Earlier Model(tip Motor Switch Is Fat Rectangular Switch With 2 Fat Red Wires Heater, White A Blue & A Black.)
If It Is Newer It Has A Wider Modular Motor Plug And All The Wires Are Locked In That Plug. To Ck This Remove One That Comes From That Switch To The Heater Box, And Tape It Off. Now Plug In The Wall Should Be Off No Heat But Motor Will Run. If So Replace Motor Switch Bettyboop
