Default Tumbles only
Brand: Whirlpool
Model Number: ler4634eq2
Age: 5 - 10 years

Hi All
My Whrilpool ler4634eq2 dryer only tumbles. It dosen't heat up and the timer will not advance.
I checked the power and its good and the vent is not blocked.
Do I need a new timer or a new heater element or both?

Thanks

Have you tried it in timed dry
Timed Dry uses a different set of contacts for the timer than Auto
Does the timer run in this mode
Also try different temp settings

I just tried it in timed dry and the timer is working in this mode, but still no heat high or low.

Here is a link to your unit, will help find where the different parts are located
Whirlpool LER4634EQ2

Here is a link to some wiring diagrams
dryer wiring diagrams, electric gas dryer wiring Kenmore GE Whirlpool Inglis Maytag Hotpoint Moffat McClary

Unfortunately I could not find one for your dryer, hopefully you have one.
The most likely causes for no heat are the heater itself or a thermostat
Could also be but less likely: timer contacts, motor centrifugal switch or the temp switch.

Do you have a volt/ohm meter?

Yes I have a volt/ohm meter and the wiring diagram.
The diagram looks like #7 Ingles Whirlpool Kenmore.

Most likely culprit is Thermal Cutout Non resettable.
Should be 0 ohms at room temp. They all should be.
Always remove one wire from a device when measuring it. This ensures you are not measuring a parallel path.

Good morning
I checked the Thermal Cutout Non resettable and the thermostat and they are both reading 0.
I also checked the fuse block by the motor and it was at 0.

How do I check the heater element?

Remove one wire from tyhe heater then measure the heater (1X scale)
Should be in the 8 to 15 omh range

Take 1 wire off the heating element, and check and see if you get a ohm reading. If not replace it. The reason your timer is running all the time, is because there is no heat. The timer is fine. Also, Check you power coming to the dryer. You should read 240 volts from the far right terminal to the far left terminal on the terminal block where you plug goes in If you need me you can reach me at my website at ApplianceEducator.com. Thanks denman and kayakcrzy.
It turns out it was the heater element. When I took it out I could see one of the coils was broken.

Thanks again I could not have done it with out your help.
