Default Touch panel is locked up
Brand: Maytag
Model Number: Neptune
Age: 1 - 4 years

The electronic control panel started to "chirp" a few months ago (electric dryer). Uplugging unit would reset it. Now the control panel is locked up. The lights are on but nobody is home! 37 minutes are on the readout and various buttons are lit but the panel does not respond even after unplugging/replugging power. Does the control panel need to be replaced? Is there a "reboot" button sequence? Thanks.

You need to replace the circuit board. You can try to take off all the harnesses, and replug them in. Some times you can get a vibration, and it could make a bad contact. It is worth a try, before you buy the new board. If you need me you can reach me at my web site at ApplianceEducator.com

Default new board - still locked up

Hi - I replaced the board, same problem. I ran the LED test and all the LEDs lit up. Part of the problem is the buzzer on the board "chirps" randomly. I tried disconnecting different wires. No change, until I disconnected the touch panel ribbon cable. The chirping stopped. Does this mean the touch panel has a short or...? Thanks

Normally that touch pad does not go out. I have replace plenty of control boards on Neptunes. But by what you said you have done, I would have to agree with you on the touch pad, replacement. Tom ApplianceEducator.com

Default Touch my...pad...

..if Mariah Carey did appliance repair... Okay - the model number is Matag MDE5500AYW. If the problem is the touch pad, it appears to be integrated into that fine piece of molded plastic on the top of the dryer. Or can it be gently pealed off, possibly with the help of a hair drier on low to heat up the glue?

Thanks - PH
