Default Totally dry or wet
Brand: Maytag
Model Number: DE512
Age: More than 10 years

On the Auto Dry Regular Fabrics and the Auto Dry Permament Press cycles, I have only 2 options - totally bone dry or completely wet. I set each cycle at exactly one click past the first option on the dial labeled "Less dry" and the clothes come out completely dry. If I set the dial one click before "Less dry" the clothes come out completely wet. I'm tired of paying for a service technician to tell me that this is just the way it is. If so, why then does Maytag have 4 more lines to "More dry" on the dial? Maybe they own stock in the electric company!?!

Here is your parts breakdown
Maytag DE512

Here is a service manual for some of the DE series, may be close to yours

There is a good explanation of how auto dry should work on Page 3-3

It sounds like your dryer may be running on the high limit thermostat and not the cycling thermostat. This would happen if the contacts in the cycling thermostat are fused together.
