Default Too many cycles to dry fully?
Brand: Whirlpool
Model Number: Ultimate Care HD super capacity plus
Age: 5 - 10 years

Hi, I have a whirlpool electric dryer that takes more than one cycle to completely dry. I have ran it empty with the door open while holding in the switch, and the element definitely heats up. There is also a small knocking noise when the drum turns. I have cleaned out all the ducts. Is there more than one heating sensor on this type?

Thanks

Gerry

Your model # is on a sticker inside the door!
Do you wash your clothes on normal cycle or perma press? Do all your dryer cycles, get hot? Have you tried to dry a load with the vent hose off, to see if it works better? Have you taken off the lint chute and washed it out, and cleaned the blower wheel? After drying 20 minutes, does the top of the dryer get real hot? Let me know BettyBoop

Thanks BB for where to find the model # which LER8857EQ1, type 180-00.

I will attempt to run it without the hose hooked up and check the other items after that. Although I did run it one cycle with the dryer pulled away from the wall and the hose on with no bends in it, and the result was the same, still needed a second cycle to dry.

Gerry-o, What does pulling it away from the wall have to do with how long it takes?

BB, I had to pull it away from the wall to access the hose, and ran it without it hooked up and miracles of miracles it dried on one cycle.

I'm assuming the problem is that the hose is compressed against the back wall when the dryer is pushed in and causing the problem as there is not enough room behind. If that is the case do I need some sort of angle exhaust attachment to hook up to the hose so as not to compress it? Or is there something else you can suggest?

Home depot sells metal elbows for your need, however you yourself said you moved the dryer out from the wall and it didn't work any better. Is your vent pipe vented up through the roof, or thru the wall behind the dryer and outside? If it is up to the roof, your problem could be there. dryer vents are not to be more than15' long, nor have no more than 1 elbow in that 15'. Roof vents are the # 1 cause of drying problems! when I used to do in home service calls, thru wall vents were only a problem a couple times a year, thru roof at least once a week. Betty Boop

BB, I think after your analysis, it probably is the roof vent, I can't remember the last time it was cleaned.

So do I need a professional to clean it with special equipment or is it something I can do myself. I have no problem getting on the roof as I usually get up there to clean gutters, leaves etc,

If you have a shop vac,or borrow one, put it in the vent (dryer end) take a long piece of light swing set chain put a couple of pad locks for agitators. Get up on the roof and wiggle and jiggle the chain and with the vacuum on at the bottom, till you are satisfied it's clean. If your vent pipe doesn't go straight to the roof, you'll have to disconect it in the atic, and clean it from there down to the dryer.
Good luck and do a good job. Betty Boop
