Default Timer stops working when heat turns on
Brand: Magic Chef
Model Number: YG224LM
Age: More than 10 years

I've tested all the thermostats and all 4 seem to test fine with an ohm meter.
The timer works fine in fluff and cool down modes but as soon as the heat turns on the timer stops working.
Thanks for any advice

Tom

Can you test the thermostats by bypassing each one by wiring the leads together.
That way the timer should continue to run when the "bad" one is bypassed.

Here is a link to your dryer with the wiring
Maytag YG224LM

I would be more inclined to look at the timer contacts
Does it kick out on all modes
If only kicks out in Auto or Perm Press contacts TM to A
If only kicks out in Timed Dry contacts TM to N

It kicks out in both auto and timed

"TM" to "N" tested fine
"TM" to "H" was open
"H" to "A" was fine

TM is black
H is yellow
A is red
N is white

I am doing this with the dryer unplugged and the timer set in a normal dry cycle where it normally has been not running

Ok, tried this again, TM to N tested fine and then I plugged it in, ran it in timed mode and when it kicked off (timer) I tested it again and it tested open.
Let it sit for a little bit and it tested fine again. I left the meter on it and plugged in back in and ran it and as soon I heard the flame start it read open again

Well you definitely have a weird one

Just so I understand the only thing that stops working is the timer. The unit will dry clothes with heat but cannot complete a cycle because the timer is dead. CORRECT?

From your earlier post
"TM" to "N" tested fine
"TM" to "H" was open
"H" to "A" was fine
Is some of the above a typo or do you have a different diagram than I have?
Mine shows TM to N, L to H and TM to A.

This is the way I believe the timer contacts should work
L to M Closed for all cycles except at OFF positions. Provides power to the motor
and one side of the timer
TM to B Closed only at end of cycles - runs the buzzer
TM to N Closed during complete TIMED DRY cycle. Also closed for a while at the
end of AUTO cycles - L to H is open then, this is the cool down time
TM to A Closed during Auto cycles - the sensor turns the timer on off as required,
open during Timed dry
L to H Closed during entire TIMED DRY cycle, Closed for most of the AUTO cycles
except at the end when there is a cool down time using TM to N. These
contacts provide power to your heat section and should not effect the timer.

TM to N must work because you say cool down does work. What does not make sense is these same contacts are used for TIMED DRY which does not work.

First thing I would do is disconnect the timer motor from the timer assy usually just spade lugs and clean them and reconnect them. Then measure the voltage across the motor while running Only thing I can think of is for some reason when your valve coils kick in the voltage to the timer motor drops to a level which is too low to run the motor

Good Hunting from a very puzzled guy
